Pack 565 Pinewood
The Pack 565 Pinewood Derby is scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Alta Mesa and Trail Lake. Each racer is asked to arrive ½ hour before his scheduled heat to check-in and weigh-in. Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete. (There will be a small work table for last minute modifications.) After the race the cars will be collected and evaluated for special awards. The cars will be returned at the January Pack Meeting. If you are available to help set up the night before or during the morning on Saturday please contact John Patterson at johnp@pack565texas.org. The heats are as follows:
TIGERS - Check in at 8:00. Race begins at 8:30
WOLVES - Check in at 8:30. Race begins at 9:00
BEARS - Check in at 9:00. Race begins at 9:30
WEBELOS I - Check in at 9:30. Race begins at 10:00
WEBELOS II - Check in at 10:00. Race begins at 10:30
OPEN - Check in at 10:30. Race begins at 11:00. (Any one can race…Dad, Mom, brother, sister, Uncle Albert)

The Official Rules are as
follows:
All Cars must pass inspection to qualify for the race. The inspection points
are as follows:
1. The car must have been made within the current scouting year.
2. The width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
3. The car length shall not exceed 7 inches.
4. The weight of the car shall not exceed 5 ounces.
5. Axles, wheels, and body wood shall be as provided in the BSA kit. Car wheels
shall not be sharpened to a “V” rim.
6. Wheel bearings, washers, and brushing are prohibited.
7. The car shall not ride on any kind of springs.
8. Any details added must be within width, length, and weight limits.
9. The car must be freewheeling with no starting devices.
10. No loose material of any kind (such as a lead shot) allowed in the car,
In addition to awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each den, there will be awards for the following:
Best Paint Job, Most Unusual, Most Original, Most Colorful, Most Creative, Most Patriotic, Fastest Looking Car, Most Cub Spirit, Most Realistic Looking Car, Judge's Favorite.
